Vehicles are not allowed in the centre of town unless they have a special permit. When you arrive in Cesky Krumlov, enter the town centre via Objizdkova and Horni street, look for the "Infocentrum" on the right side of the main Svornosti square and park in front of the adjacent Grand Hotel. You can show the town policemen the reservation receipt that you will receive by e-mail. Put the reservation receipt on top of your dashboard so the police will not give you a ticket while on the way to and from the reception office. At check-in, you will be given a detailed map and be shown where to park. You will also be given a card confirming that you are a guest going to the free guarded parking lot at the Eggenberg brewery. The castle was built at the turn of the 19th century and has been the estate of a German industrial family. It is situated outside the village of Kaplice and 10 kilometers from the Czech-Austrian border. It is an impressive spot in the middle of the unspoiled Bohemian woodlands. An oasis of silence but within a short distance of the well-trodden trails of the tourist hotspots of the Czech Republic in South Bohemia. It is an area with pristine forests and gentle rolling hills, habitat to deer and wild boars. Squirrels are having a field day in the hotel yard. The river Malse with its many trouts runs through our garden. In 2005 the castle was completely refurbished and now has a capacity of 14 comfortable rooms with a bathroom and TV set. Krumlov Castle is unusually large for a town of Krumlov's size; and, in the Czech Republic, only Prague castle is larger. The castle also contains a preserved Baroque theatre which was completed in 1766. The theatre is still complete with original stage machinery, scenery and props. Krumlov also has a museum dedicated to the painter Egon Schiele, who lived in the town. Ten kilometers from Krumlov is one of the Czech Republic’s oldest monasteries, Zlatá Koruna ("The Golden Crown"). About 30 km from Krumlov is the Hluboká Castle, established in the 12th century and later remodelled according to Windsor Castle in England. Krumlov is close to the Šumava National Park, the Czech Republic's largest national park. The Šumava mountains lie along the border with Austria and Germany and offer a range of natural habitats - peat bogs, Alpine meadows, primeval forests, lakes, and rivers.
